Les îles Chagos se situent dans l'Océan Indien. L'île
la plus au nord des Chagos est à 500 km plus au sud que Gan, l'île la plus au
sud des îles Maldives. L'archipel des îles Chagos est constitué de 65 îles,
dont la plus grande, Diego Garcia, a 44 km2.
L'archipel couvre une superficie de plus de 50'000 km2, dont seulement 63.17
km2 de terre emergée. Les îles sont des atolls coraliens similaires aux Maldives
et aux Laccadives, dont les Chagos sont le prolongement le plus méridional.
The Chagos islands are located in the Indian Ocean.
The northernmost island of the Chagos is some 500 km to the south of Gan, the
southermost island of the Maldives. The archipelago has 65 islands, the biggest
being Diego Garcia with 44 km2.
The total area of the archipelago (ocean surface included) is of 50'000 km2,
with only 63.17 km2 being land. The islands are coralian atolls similar to the
Maldives and Laccadives, the Chagos being the southermost group of this formation.
