NON A LA GUERRE, OUI A LA PAIX AUX CHAGOS
NO TO WAR, YES TO PEACE IN THE CHAGOS
En écoutant en ce 16 mars 2003 Messsieurs BUSH et BLAIR, Président
et Premier Ministre, je suis dégoutée.
En effet j'étais au tribunal en novembre 2002 pour écouter, les
demandes de mon peuple. J'ai entendu les exactions des Etats Unis et de la Grande
Bretagne contre un petit peuple qui est le mien, celui des Chagossiens. Toutes
ces violations des droits de l'Homme ont été causée pour
transformer un territoire tourné vers la paix en un territoire tourné
vers une guerre perpétuelle. Les Etats Unis et le Royaume Unis ont déclaré
une guerre préventive contre les Chagossiens il y 30 ans. Les Chagossiens
n'étaient que des pêcheurs et des travailleurs de plantation de
noix de coco sans volonté guerrière, et présent sur l'archipel
depuis 2 siècles. Nos ancêtres ont rendu l'archipel des Chagos
habitable par leur travail d'esclave puis d'employés. Pour la simple
raison que l'on voulait notre Terre, nous avons perdu nos terres, nos maisons
et beaucoup de nos enfants. Les bombardiers B52, B1 et B2 décollent de
chez nous pour mettre "la démocratie et la liberté"
dans le monde, mais pour quelle raison celle-ci doit elle rester absente aux
Chagos? Peut-on la mettre sur des millions de personnes et de kilomètres
carrés quand on est incapabale de la mettre sur 60 km2? Je ne suis ni
anti US ou anti Britannique, ni pour terrorisme, mais je veux la liberté
et la démocratie dans le monde et aux Chagos. Nous ne pouvons pas revendiquer
nos droits (il y a déjà eu des grèves de la faim, des manifestatiosn
et des procès) sans passer pour des terroristes. Par contre le gouvernement
britannique peut nous traiter de Tarzans et Vendredis, et se montrer en exemple
pour donner des leçons aux autres. Le gouvernement britannique condamne
le Zimbabwe pour ses exactions contre les fermiers Blancs, tout en oubliant
qu'ils ont déjà fait la même chose il y a 30 ans contre
nous, les insulaires des Chagos. Pourquoi y-a-t il deux poids et deux mesures?
Je connais le bien supérieur et irremplaçable qu'est la valeur
de la vie humaine. Trop de mères chagossiennes ont perdu des enfants
sans que quiconque ne s'en émeuve. Je ne veux pas que notre archipel
serve à créer d'autres mères qui souffrent comme nous en
ce moment. On nous a détruit pour détruire d'autres peuples. Les
Chagos sont notre mère et notre terre, pas celle des aviateurs et marins
américains qui la viole. Il eut été préférable
qu'on nous tue tous sur place plus tôt que de nous faire subir toutes
les souffrances de la misère, et de la perte de nos enfants. L'espoir
de retourner demeure, mais nos anciens continuent à mourir dans le chagrin
de la séparation de leur terre natale. Comment fait on une démocratie
sans peuple? Sans doute ce qui a été inauguré il y a 30
ans aux Chagos était un prélude à ce qui se passe aujourd'hui.
La communauté internationale n'est pas plus écoutée que
les Chagossiens il y a 30 ans. Seul compte un groupe restreint de gros bras
qui prennent des décisions pour vous au nom d'une liberté et démocratie
fictive. Mon frère Olivier BANCOULT en juin 2000 a toujours eu des militaires
britanniques à ses côtés qui l'ont empêché
de visiter le cimetière de Diego Garcia et qui lui ont fait visiter le
reste de l'archipel en seulement 4 jours. Dans une démocratie, l'armée
est-elle au service du peuple ou est-ce le peuple et ses représentants
qui sont étroitement surveillés par l'armée? La démocratie
est-ce l'expulsion de tout un peuple de chez lui pour le remplacer par des militaires
et des étrangers travaillant avec des contrats de durée limité?
Monsieur BLAIR s'occupe du monde, mais néglige les problèmes
de son pays puisque nous avons un passeport britannique. Vive la véritable
liberté et démocratie où les peuples pourront s'exprimer
en faisant véritablement entendre leur voix. Je suis révoltée
et je me battrais toujours pour le retour de mon peuple chez nous.

By listening to Mrs BUSH and BLAIR,
President and Prime Minister, tonight on 16 March 2003, I am disgusted. Indeed
I was in the London High Court in November 2002 to listen to the requests of
my people. I heard the exactions of the United States and the United Kingdom
against a small people which is mine, that of Chagossians. All these violations
of Humans Rrights were caused to change a territory turned towards peace towards
a territory turned towards a perpetual war. The United States and the United
Kingdom declared a preventive war against the Chagossians 30 years ago. Chagossians
were only fishermen and workers of coconut plantations without warlike will,
and present on the Archipelago for 2 centuries. Our ancestors made to the Chagos
Archipelago inhabitable by their slave work and then by their work as employees.
For the simple reason which one wanted our ground, we lost our land, our houses
and many of our children. If the B52, B1 and B2 bombers take off from on our
premises to put "democracy and freedom" in the world, for which reason must
they remain absent in the Chagos? Can one put it on millions of people and square
kilometres when one is unable to put it on 60 km2? I am neither anti US or anti
British, nor for terrorism, but I want freedom and the democracy in the world
and in the Chagos. We cannot assert our rights (there were already hunger strikes,
demonstrations and lawsuits) without passing for terrorists. On the other hand
the British government can treat us of Tarzans and Men-Fridays, and in the mean
time give lessons to the others. The British government condemns Zimbabwe for
its exactions against the White farmers, while forgetting that they already
made the same thing 30 years ago against us, the Chagos Islanders. Why are therer
double standards? I know the higher and irreplaceable good which is the value
of the human life. Too many Chagossian mothers lost their children without anyone
caring about it. I do not want our archipelago to be used to create other mothers
who will suffering like us now. We were destroyed to destroy other people. The
Chagos is our mother and our land, not that of the American pilots or sailors
who violate it. It would have been preferable that one kills all of us on the
spot rather than to make us undergo all the sufferings tied to misery and the
loss of our children. The hope to go back home remains, but our elders continue
to die in the sorrow of the separation of their native soil. How can a democracy
exist without people? Undoubtedly what was inaugurated 30 years ago in the Chagos
was a prelude to what occurs today. The international community remains unheard,
like the Chagossians 30 years ago. Only account a restricted group of big wigs
make decisions for you in the name of Freedom and fictitious Democracy. My brother
Olivier BANCOULT in June 2000, always had British soldiers on his sides, and
prevented him from visiting the Diego Garcia cemetery while leaving only 4 days
to visit the remainder of the archipelago. In a democracy, is the army at the
service of the people or is it the people and their representatives who are
narrowly supervised by the army? Is democracy the eviction of a whole people
of their land to be replaced it by soldiers and foreigners working with contracts
limited in time?
Mr BLAIR deals with the world, but neglects the problems
of his country since we have a British passport. Long live true freedom and
democracy where the people will be able to express themselves while making truly
their voice heard. I feel revolted and I will always fight for the right of
my people to go back home.
